Versiones - Mná na h-Éireann (Mujeres de Irlanda)

Seán Ó Riada fue para muchos el padre del renacimiento musical celta en Irlanda. Una de las últimas canciones que compuso fue Mná na h-Éireann, un tema melancólico que nos traslada a las verdes campiñas de la dulce Eire y que nos habla de las mujeres de esa gran nación (la letra es un poema del bardo del siglo XVIII Peadar Ó Dorinín).

Versiones de Mujeres de Irlanda las hay para todos los gustos, desde las instrumentales, como las de Alan Stivell o Mike Oldfield, hasta las más convencionales, como las de Sinéad O'Connor o Kate Bush. Una de las más famosas es la que realizaron The Chieftains para la banda sonora de la película Barry Lyndon. Instrumentalmente perfecta, como todo lo que llevan haciendo estos chavalotes desde hace casi medio siglo.

Mi preferida, sin embargo, es una adaptación en todo el sentido de la palabra, ya que cambian el título y la letra. Words lanzó a la fama a The Christians a principios de los noventa, y todavía hoy rezuma lo mejor del buen soul británico.
